My hands were itching to author a blog on Go Karting in Siliguri.

Go Karting is sport where an open-wheel car named Go Kart is used for driving and competing.These days Go Karting is a popular recreational sport worldwide.They are executed both indoors and outdoors.Yes, Siliguri has Go Karting option for adventure lovers and the good news is that we have two outdoor tracks of Go Karting- Savin Kingdom and Sukna Army Cant.

1. Sukna Army Cant

This is the best among the two for the following reasons :-

a. It is spread on a larger area.It is very spacious and has some thrilling turns at corners.Go Karting is all about balancing your vehicle at severe turns.

b.There is more greenery here.Since, it's an army cant in the middle of Sukna forest therefore greenery has surrounded it from many sides.

c. There is a children park in the middle of the track which has swings.

d. The cost of rides is low.They charge Rs 60 per adult for two rounds of drive.

e. A sports room is at the entrance of the track.It houses pool and table-tennis tables.

f. Washroom is available

g. Cleanliness is maintained to extreme.

The timings of Go Karting at Sukna Cant are from to 4 pm.

Apart from this, there is beautiful park beside the Go Karting track maintained by army.It is called Madhuban Park.The park has trimmed grasses to sit,swings, watch tower, pet swarms and rabbits and a pond with a bridge.It filled with people on weekends.

2.Savin Kingdom Go Kart

The second Go Karting track is in Savin Kingdom.Like Sukna it is  an outdoor Go Karting.First one needs to buy an entry ticket to the amusement park.After that one can either enjoy the rides or straightway head to Go Karting track.The last time when I went for this activity they charged Rs 130 per adult. Savin Kingdom has one and two-seater go karts.

Besides, Savin Kingdom also has a Water Kingdom.One needs to buy a separate ticket for that. Savin Kingdom also houses the most amazing movie theater of Siliguri-Carnival Cinemas.I love this place for it's mouth-watering food at intervals and the comfortable seats.

A Visit to Jaldapara National Park-Activities to do In Siliguri

We started for Jaldapara on a bright sunny day of April from Siliguri. Initially,  we had a plan to visit Mirik but the road to Mirik was not in good shape.  Driver informed told us that Dooars would be a better option because the car was new to bear the adventure of hills. It was a tempting option as forests are my favorite before hills.

What are Dooars?

So we started on our journey towards Dooars. Dooars is a geographical term for the floodplains on the foothills of Himalayas. Dooars are spread over two states of India -West Bengal and Assam. In West Bengal they are scattered in districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri,  Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. They comprise of lush green tropical  forests,  tea gardens, tribal villages and diversity of fauna and flora.

Rivers meandering along the valleys of Himalayas make their first appearance on plains via Dooars. As a result, the velocity of the river is minimized and it creates a swamp like situation.Swamp ,as you know, is the fulcrum of thriving fauna and flora.Thousand of endangered species blossom these regions. Government has observed them crucial biodiversity centres.The dignity of the ecosystem is maintained by establishing several wildlife sanctuaries and national parks on this belt.It protects the forests from the brutal hand of civilization.

Four national parks/wildlife sanctuaries are very close to Siliguri.I know people here who like to make a visit any one of them on their Sundays.The names of these national parks/wildlife sanctuaries are Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, Jaldapara National Park, Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary.Mahananda Wildlife is the closed.Actually Siliguri is surrounded on many sides by Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary.

Siliguri Outskirts

We were making visit to Jaldapara National Park.It takes two hours to reach Jaldapara from Siliguri.You need to cross several important landmarks on the way like Mahananda Wildlife, Coronation Bridge etc.The view of the outskirts were nothing like Siliguri.Lush green forests,agricultural patches and tea gardens.Half an hour from Siliguri and all these sights become visible.

Safari Options In Jaldapara

Since Jaldapara is under forest department therefore one needs to obtain permission from the forest office before entering the park. One cannot take personal vehicles inside the park.There are only two ways to tour- elephant safari and jeep safari.

This was my second trip to Jaldapara.I had visited this place during my school days and ventured for elephant safari.Elephant Safari begins early morning around 5 am.They take you deep inside the jungle.It is more adventurous than jeep safari because an elephant can venture at places where jeep cannot.Although I felt jeep safari was equally adventurous sport because you never know what comes beforeyour jeep.Our jeep was stopped by a bison.Moreover, the roofless vehicle makes you feel like you are flying in the air.The visibility in jeep safari is better than elephant safari.

This time we went for jeep safari. They charged Rs 600 per head .We went till the buffer zone of the jungle and believe me it reminded me of Jurassic Park.There are countless ferns inside the jungle. The trees take their individual shape as if nobody dares to bother them and they are the king of jungle.

We were taken till an Observation tower.I saw an elephant tied with a chain.Felt pity for it.At this distance, i could see two hippopotamuses drinking from the river water. A red bison was indifferently grazing on the tall grass.Parade of elephants crossing the grasslands.Glorious sight !

While returning a fawn was watching us from the hidden bushes.Two bisons scared us to death when they stopped before our jeep so that they can brood upon migrating the neighboring village.The tribal villages are protected from animals by the means of electric wires.If  bisons hit the wire they can die with heartache. The forest officials tried to divert them towards their jungle.Bisons are scared of noise.They gave up and retreated their steps.I also saw many peacocks dancing on the river side.Animals love salt. They come to lick the salt beside the riverside whenever they feel the need.

Tigers, bisons and deers are sorted by many but I also love to watch birds.Jaldapara is marvelous place for bird and butterfly watchers.Many ornithologists like to visit this place for their research.

Conclusion

We left the Jaldapara around 5 pm.The sun was slowing setting and the wind was gaining its velocity.We left with the feeling of satisfaction.The same feeling when we get amongst Nature.Human beings were born to live with Nature. Not separated from it.Till this date, Nature instills healing to the troubled minds. Stay a week amidst the nature to experience the certainty of this truth or visit places like this to get the gist of my proposition !

Is there Mc Donald's in Siliguri ?

Is there Mc Donald's in Siliguri? This is a question I'm asked often from my metropolitan friends who think me all knowledgeable about the place . Detached from their hometown they live in mega cities for better prospects of education and living.It is natural for them to look for some familiar traits of cities in their hometown since the habit of urban living is built.

Sadly, my reply is 'No'. We still do not have a Mc Donald's in Siliguri due to some franchisee issue.However, there are other giant food brands which have managed to establish a good grip on the urban-rural population of Siliguri. Following are their names -

1. KFC

There is an obvious chance of popularity wherever KFC sets its foot.I myself a big fan of cheesy crunch burger and alphonso burst of KFC inspite of being a disciplined vegetarian.KFC is a big favorite among Siligurians. As per my knowledge, there are two stores of KFC in Siliguri.One is at City Center and another at Sevoke More.Both are crowded with people in the evenings.Home delivery and online order is functional.

2.Domino's

Domino's is yet another acclaimed food giant of Siliguri.They have four stores in Siliguri.Two at Sevoke Road.One in City Center and the biggest at SF Road.Pizza home delivery is only possible from Golden Enclave Store of Sevoke Road and Ojas Mall Store of SF Road.

3. Subway

Healthy Subway is also breathing its existence in Siliguri.We have two Subway stores in Siliguri-City Center and Cosmos Mall.Stay healthy and eat healthy !

4. Pizza Hut

Yes we have a Pizza Hut in Siliguri.It's on the ground floor of Cosmos Mall.There is only one store in entire Siliguri which serves delightness to Siligurians. Home Delivery is functional.

5.Cafe Coffee Day (CCD)

Do you really enjoy coffee? I prefer tea.We have three stores of CCD in Siliguri - City Center, Cosmos and ground floor of Hotel Dolly Inn.Sorry, no home delivery here.

Siliguri's Newest Mall - Vega Circle Mall

After Cosmos and City Center, Vega Circle Mall found its way to Siliguri.

Siliguri is a small town which does not have sophisticated luxuries of metropolis but I doubt there is anything you cannot find here.Lofty brands function simultaneous to the street markets . Not very long ago we just had Hong Kong Market to fulfill the necessities of life.Presently, we have Cosmos,City Center and Vega Circle.Though I have never understood the concept

of mall as a shopping complex. It appears to me like an eager group feeding a blood-thirsty hound.In this case, a money-thirsty hound.I presume,world has turned into place where material duplicity is valued more than generosity of a person.

Keeping the philosophy aside,when my sight first fell on the mall I got the feeling of grandiose. Vega Circle Mall is a massive structure. City Center is  breadth-wise spread to a larger area.It doesn't have many storeys.Cosmos is taller but breadth-wise it doesn't occupy much space.Vega Circle is an advance form of Cosmos Mall.It has many storeys but isn't spread like City Center.

Vega Circle was inaugurated in mid-December 2016.It appeared to be a Christmas gift for the Siligurians as it opened just a week before Christmas.

Initially, the structure that was standing at its place was called Orbit Mall.Due to some reason, things did not turn out good and Orbit remained in its undeveloped stage for quite a good number of years.However, Inox was always functional.

Recently, the renovation of the mall began and it opened with a new name Vega Circle.

Vega Circle will be coming up with some non proceeded  brands in Siliguri like Forever 21,Tom Hillfinger etc. Ground Floor has some popular apparel stores like Pantaloons, Levi's and Max.

Matigara Nurseries have fine collection of roses.If you intend for roses then this is the right place for it.

2. Court More Nurseries

Kindly don't get confused by the name.The nurseries aren't inside the court.There are fair count of nurseries on Venus More.The lane on which they fall heads towards Court More hence the name.
Court More nurseries doesn't have wider scope of plants but basic necessities can be met.I once spotted my favorite anthurium(Laceleaf) on the wooden stack holding the plants.Anthurium is easily found in India but are scarcely kept in the nurseries of Siliguri.

मेरी पहली Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving एक रोमांचक खेल है जिसमे आप पानी के अंदर गोता लगाकर विभिन समुद्री जिव-जंतु देख सकते है।

 Swimming जान्ने वालो के लिए यह सरल  होता है।  असली challenge तो उन लोगो के लिए है जिन्हें swimming की  abc नहीं अति और वह गोता लगाने के इकछूक है। उन प्राणियों में एक मैं हु। मैंने  ज़िन्दगी में कभी swimming नहीं सीखा है और न ही सिखने का  प्रयास किया है। किन्तु अंग्रेजी में एक कहावत है - Where there is a will, there is a way! मैं  scuba diving करना चाहती थी इसमें ब्राम्हणत भी मेरी सहायते करेगा। वैसे भी मेरी समज  में एक बात नहीं आ रही थी। अगर oxygen cylinder और instructor हो तो डर  किस बात का।  लेकिन बोहोत जल्दी मुझे मेरी प्रश्न का उत्तर मिलने वाला था। Discovery में जाना है तो कही से शुरुवात करनी पड़ेगी।

 Scuba  Diving कम्पनीज आपसे एक agreement sign कराती है जिसमे ये mention किया होता है की अगर आपके साथ कोई घटना होती है तो उसकी  ज़िमेदार वो company नहीं है।  मैंने agreement sign  और diving suit लेकर  changing room  चली गयी।   मेरी पहली scuba diving अंडमान के North Bay Island में होने वाली थी।  बेहद खूबसूरत island जो privately owned है। वहा लोग नहीं रहते बस सुबह से शाम तक water sports company का मेला लगा होता है। शाम ढलते ही वो वापस अपने घरो की तरफ boat या फिर  ferry से चल परते है। वहा  आपको खानेकी भी वस्तुये भी मिल जाएगी ।  पास के गाँव से कुछ लोग boat पे बैठकर आते है और अपनी दुकानों पर biscuit,snacks,tea और  coffee की बिक्री करते है। 

मैं scuba diving के लिए तयार खरी थी।  सबसे पहले मेरी बारी  थी। North Bay Island के तट का पानी बिलकुल भी डरावना नहीं था। उसकी गहराई ज़्यादा नहीं है और corals भी दिख  जाते है ऊपर से।  लेकिन मेरा डर कुछ और था।  मुझे swimming नहीं अति थी और मैं गहराई में जा रही थी।  ऊपर से oxygen cylinder में सास कैसे लुंगी ये अलग दुविधा थी। लेकिन एक बात मैंने मन में ठानली की मुझे ये करना है। डर मुझे डरा नहीं सकता। 

धीरे धीरे में पानी में उतरी।  वहा दूर खरा instructor मुझे धीरे धीरे अनेके instructions दे रहा था। North Bay का  तट  चारो तरफ से coral से सजा हुआ है।  आपको beach से ही corals दिख जायेंगे। अगर पानी में चलते हुए कोई गलती से फ़िसल जाये तो उससे बोहोत चोट लग सकती है। Corals बिलकुल cement की तरह सकत और पत्थर की तरह खुरखुरे होते है। वो आपके पैरो में काटे की तरह चुभते है। 

मैं धीरे-धीरे वह तक गयी जहा मेरा instructor खरा था। पानी सिर्फ 3 फुट का होगा।  वैसे मैं  सिलीगुड़ी की नदियों में  5  footके पानी तक भी चली जाती हु।  वहा कोई भय नहीं था। Instructor ने मुझे वेलकम करते हुए कहा की scuba diving करना जितना मुश्किल दीखता है उतना है नहीं।  मैं जल्दी सीख सकती हु।  Oxygen practiceऔर  sign language सिखने के बाद वो मुझे पानी के ऊपर float करते हुए 7 feet की गहराई वाले जगा ले गया। Oxygen का cylinder heavy था लेकिन मेरे नोवी और दसमी के school के बस्ते से ज़्यादा नहीं। इसलिए वो मुझे हल्का लगा। अभी चुनौती ये थी की मैं सिर्फ आकाश  देख पा  रही थी और जिस वक़्त instructorमुझे flip करता उस वक़्त मैं सीधे पानी के अन्दर चली जाती। मेरी सास फूलने लगी।  

Oxygen mask को पानी में जाने के एक second पहले ही पहना चाहिए लेकिन में पानी के ऊपर ही oxygen mask  का स्तेमाल करने लगी थी। ये करने से सास फूलने लगती हैं। मैंने instructor को कहा की मैं manage कर लुंगी पैर वो मुझे flip करने से पहले एक बार inform करदे। । पहली बार जब में पानी में गयी  तो कुछ दिख  नहीं रहा था।  पहला diving , no swimming और दिखाई भी नहीं। मैं घबरा गयी।  Instructor को ऊपर जानेका इशारा किया।  ऊपर जाकर मैं उससे बोहोत डाटा।  कुछ दिख ही नहीं रहा है कैसे diving करुँगी। उसने मुझे दूसरा चस्मा निकालके दिया और कहा की यहाँ temperature के वजह से नहीं दीखता है।  खुले समुद्र में बेहतर visibility है। 

मैं दूसरी बार पानी के अंदर गयी।  इस बार दिख तो रहा था लेकिन एक नया fear सतह पे आया। यह कहना  गलत है की claustrophobia एक बीमारी  है जो आपको हो जाती है।  नहीं ये एक बीमारी नहीं एक डर है जो नए swimmers और गोताखोर के सामने आ जाती है। जिसे हराकर वो आगे बरते है। Claustrophobia बंद जगह में रहने का दर है।  अगर आप किसी बंद जगह में है तो  और ड्रॉप इस बंधन से डरते है तो उससे claustrophobia कहते है।

 मेरी समस्या ले थी मैं पानी के ज़्यादा अंदर जानेके बाद वहा  से बहार निकलने का प्रयास भी कर रही थी। मैंने ये शायद 20 बार किया होगा अपने 45 मिनट्स के स्कूबा diving में।  उस instructor के धैर्य को सलाम करना पड़ेगा जिसने एक सेकंड भी ये आस नहीं छोड़ी की मैं diving नहीं कर सकती। इसका परिणाम ये हुआ की 20th टाइम मैं पानी के अंदर comfortable होने लगी और मछलियों के पीछे भागने का प्रयास करने लगी। इसवक़्त मैं सबसे ज़्यादा समय तक पानी में रह सकी और समुद्री पर्यावरण की महिमा का आनंद लेने लगी।  दुर्भाग्य से मेरे डर ने scuba diving का बोहोत समय ले  लिया  और  वापस जाने का समय हो गया या  था।  Instructor को अपने धैर्य के लिए धन्यवाद् करते हुए मैं तट की तरफ चली गयी। हाँ मेरी पहली scuba diving session ख़तम हो गयी थी  लेकिन scuba  diving का ये पहले कदम था।  मैं फिर वहा जाउंगी और इस बार ज़्यादा समय के लिए। 

अंडमान द्वीप समूह और मेरी यात्रा।

नमस्कार। 

अंडमान की यात्रा हमने नवम्बर के अंत में आराम्भ किया था।  हमरे लौटने के कुछ दिन बाद ही अंडमान में भरी वर्षा और मौसम ख़राब हो जानेकी खबर आयी।

जब हम गए थे तो पोर्ट ब्लेयर का मौसम हलकी गर्मी से झुलस रहा था।   मौसम खिला था और आसमान में बाद सुंदर लग रहे थे। ऐसी खूबसूरती की इंसान को सोच में डालदे।

पोर्ट ब्लेयर एक समुद्री इलाका है जो मुख्य भूमि भारत से मिलों दूर है।  यहाँ के बादल  बिलकुल स्वेत रंग के दिखाई परते  है।  रात के वक़्त भी तारे झिलमिलाते हुए आकाश में साफ़ दीखते है।  फिल-हाल डेल्ही में मुझे सिर्फ एक तारह अपने छत से दीखता हुआ नज़र आया। वो था हमारा प्रिय शुक्र(Venus )  ग्रह।  ये सूर्य मंडल का एक ही गृह है जो घने बदल को चीरता हुआ पृथ्वी वासियो को अपनी रौशनी पोहोचता है। अंडमान की बात ही अलग है।  उसका आस्मां शीशे की तरह साफ़ है। समुद्री तट प्रोदुषण से दूर।

नेटवर्क (Network )

अंडमान की बस एक ही कठिनाई है जो नौजवानों के लिए एक भरी समसया  है - internet  . अंडमान जानेके बाद आप इन्टरनेट की कामना छोड़दे।  पोर्ट ब्लेयर में BSNL और AIRTEL  की सेवा मिल सकती है।  लेकिन Havelock  और अन्य दवीप में आप उसका विचार ही छोर दे। एक तरह से अच्छा भी है।  आप प्रकृति से सम्बंध विकसित  कर  सकेंगे और गैजेट के परेह जीवन  का अनुभव भी पा सकेंगे।

अंडमान का भूगोल 

अंडमान और निकोबार द्वीप  572 डिपो से बनी हुई है।अंडमान और निकोबार दो बरे द्वीप में विभाजन किया हुआ है -अंडमान और निकोबार।  अंडमान में सबसे ज्यादा द्वीप  है।  अंडमान के 325   द्वीप  है और निकोबार के सिर्फ 24 द्वीप  है।  अंडमान की राजधानी पोर्ट ब्लेयर है  और निकोबार की कार निकोबार है।  किन्तु निकोबार  में  टूरिस्ट  का जाना वर्जित है क्योंकि वह वहा  के आदिवासी समूह के लिए सुरक्षित की गयी है।

अंडमान में जाने के बाद आपको लगेगा की सचमे आप अलग प्रदेश में आ गए है।  कुछ ही दुरी पे आपको जल समूह दिखाई देगा  और ऐसा लगेगा की ये द्वीप  कितना सुन्दर पर चोट है। अंडमान की एक और दिलचस्प बात ये है की वह  indonesia ,thailand और myanmar जैसे देशो के बिलकुल समीप है।  आपको लगेगा की एक बोट पकड़ा और thailand पोहोच गए। लेकिन ऐसा  करना अवेध है।  बिना passport के आप इन देशो की सैर नहीं कर सकते।

ट्रांसपोर्ट 

वीर सावरकर  हवाई अड्डा  अंडमान का एक मात्र हवाई अड्डा है  ब्लेयर में स्तित हसि ।  kolkata chennai और vishakapatnam से यहाँ के लिए डायरेक्ट flight मिलती है।  हमने delhi से लिया था। उसमे ही काफी समय लगा।  समुद्री यात्रा का सोचिएगा भी नहीं। पोर्ट ब्लेयर से हेवलॉक जाने में 3 घंटे लगे।  ज़रा सोचिये kolkata,chennai और vishalapatnam से कितना समय लग सकता है।

अंडमान के लोग 

पोर्ट ब्लेयर एक सामान्य दवीप है यहाँ आपको अपने पसंद की वस्तुए आराम से मिल जाएगी। यहाँ के लोग mil,bengali hindi एवं इंग्लिश समझते है और अनुकूल है।

Siliguri is a small town in the northern part of West Bengal (India).It is on the foothills of the rising Shiwaliks.Darjeeling is just 3 hours, Gangtok 4 hours, Pelling 4 hours and mighty Dooars 2 hours distance from the Siliguri.Borders of countries like China,Tibet,Bangladesh,Nepal and Bhutan are few kilometers distance from this town.Siliguri is a crucial gateway to NorthEast states of India named Assam,Meghalaya,Arunachal Pradesh,Mizoram,Manipur,Tripura and Nagaland.

However, this is not the best thing about Siliguri.Siliguri is surrounded by lush green forests on three sides.It won't be an exaggeration to say that if you are on any street of Siliguri,you will land up in a forest track within 15 minutes of journey.

Another significant fact about Siliguri is this that it is among the safest city in India for woman.I was born and brought up in this town .In my 21 years of conscious existence, I have rarely heard of three cases of woman molestation or rape.If you are a solo woman traveler and want to visit hill stations of  Sikkim and North Bengal (Darjeeling,Kurseong,kalimpong,Lava &Lolegaong) just book a flight from New Delhi/your city to Bagdogra Airport(IXB) and you shall find all means to travel to your favorite destination from thereon(without comprising your security).Ofcourse you need to be careful about handing enough money to the taxi drivers.A little bargaining and awareness of the fare will save a lot of your money.Did I mention that Darjeeling is one of the low budget hill stations of India?

Gangtok (4 hrs from Siliguri)

Though Darjeeling and Gangtok are the most popular hill stations of this region but there are some beautiful tracts very very close to Siliguri which could be unmatched by any  hill station .As we know that North Bengal and Northeast regions are the least explored natural places of the earth therefore they still remain in their natural form.Obviously, I never dream it to be spoiled by pollution or population but atleast I could make an endeavor to reach those nature lovers who crave to see Nature in its native form.Moreover, the things out here incredibly cheap.
